Snow Chains Legal in Ohio

You are allowed to use channels on the highways from October 15 to April 15. According to Oregon law, chains have very specific requirements: strong cables with integrated bolts attached to the wheel or outside the tire, specially designed to increase the traction of a vehicle in snow or ice conditions. Requirement 1 (R1) – Chains, traction devices or winter tires are required on the driving axle of all vehicles except four-wheel drive vehicles. No person may use a vehicle equipped with a chained wheel on a highway that is not covered with ice, unless the wheel rests on an ice shoe at least 6 inches wide.
